I can't believe I've been living in my condo overlooking the north shore mountains for almost a year, and I've never been to the Columbia factory outlet that is just a few blocks away. Well I finally had a chance to visit and can now report back to you guys on what I've been missing all this time. I love the outdoors but I've avoided buying gear because I didn't think it was practical to spend money buying stuff I'd probably only use once or twice. The last big purchase I made was for a backpack I used on a trip through Thailand. Since then, I think I've only used the backpack once or twice. As you can see, becoming an outdoorsy type of person can become quite an expensive proposition. Thank goodness someone came up with the idea of outlet stores. The prices are far more reasonable and you're still getting some of the best raingear and outdoor clothing available.

I have to say I'm not surprised that Columbia has become the goto brand for outdoor clothing. At one time I thought they had made the perfect winter jacket, a combination of functional and stylish design that is so versatile, you can practically wear it year-round. You can look around all you want, but I doubt you'll be able to find a better jacket in that price range. Another thing I love is that Columbia has a strict environmental and ethical policy, so I can rest easy knowing that my jacket is made in a factory with responsible labour practices.

I believe that having top-of-the-line sports gear and equipment can help motivate me to become more fit. Thanks to the Columbia outlet in my neck of the woods I can indulge in my new backpacking obsession more frequently now because their jackets are so much more affordable. I've never really been an outdoorsy kind of gal, but now I can at least look like one. Sure I was a girl scout once, and I can still tie a mean knot, but leave me in the woods by myself and I'll probably starve to death or get eaten by a bear. Eventually I'll learn how to start my own fire and catch some fish, but for now Columbia has done a good job of dressing me up for the part. My discretionary budget isn't what it used to be so I'm thankful that Columbia has found it in their heart to leave some of their clearance, and outdated garments for me to pick up. Rarely do I ever walk out of a Columbia outlet empty-handed. I remember the last time I was there, I had to put a few things back because I was about to spend $300 without even realizing it. Luckily for me, one of the things I didn't have to put back was a pair of $40 (reduced from $90) multi-purpose pants which I've practically lived in for the last week. Now is the perfect time to gear up for the winter season, when everyone else is still on their summer vacation and you can snap up all the best deals.
